Residents at Waterloo House enjoyed a wonderful day of celebrations as we marked VE Day with a range of nostalgic activities, delicious food, and plenty of community spirit.

The day began with a special treat as our ladies had their hair styled, helping everyone look and feel their best for the occasion. Residents then got creative by making their own Spitfire planes, a fitting tribute to the aircraft that played such an important role during the Second World War.

Music was at the heart of the celebrations, with residents joining together for a sing-along to the much-loved songs of Vera Lynn. The familiar tunes brought back many happy memories and had everyone singing with enthusiasm.

Throughout the day, residents also enjoyed traditional board games, providing lots of laughter, friendly competition, and opportunities to reminisce about times gone by.

For lunch, our kitchen team served a classic menu of fish and chips wrapped in newspaper, accompanied by bread and butter pudding with custard for dessert. The meal was thoroughly enjoyed by all and proved to be a real highlight of the day.

The celebrations continued into the afternoon with a delightful afternoon tea, where residents gathered together to enjoy refreshments and each other’s company.

It was a fantastic day filled with memories, friendship, and remembrance as we honoured the anniversary of VE Day. Thank you to everyone who helped make the occasion so special for our residents.
